Big Wight MTB Festival

Big Wight Isle of Wight Mountain Biking Festival - 23 to 26 May 2008

Summer kicks off with Big Wight! First run in 1996 as the Wight Diamond Challenge (and later the Wight Diamond Festival) this event has established itself as 'don't miss' event for hundreds of bikers. It's unique combination of superb riding, events to suit everyone, on site camping, catering, bar and entertainment have earned it a reputation as the best mountain bikers party on the calendar!

'NEW 'BIG WIGHT' 100km route for 2008!

The Big Wight is coming for 2008! Trailbreak have worked their years of experience in staging MTB events on the island into the creation of a fully fledged 100 kilometre epic enduro that will ensure you never think of the Isle of Wight as small again! The route is a grand tour of the Islands best riding, biggest hills and most breathtaking views! If 100km sounds too much for you, shorter route options will be available to give all abilities a great day out! All routes will be ully route marked, you'll be supplied with a map and GPS downloads will even be available. If you have done any of our popular Southern Trail Rides, you'll be right at home with the format. These rides are just a little bit bigger!

Navigator Race

This classic two day navigator event is just amazing! Think of an extended, two day Navigator, using the whole of the Island as it's course! There are 30 check points set out across the whole Island, each with a set points value. You have 7 hours on day one and 5 hours on day two to visit as many as you can and collect as many points as possible. Just mark them up on your map and go. It doesn't sound too difficult, but you'll soon find out that the Isle of Wight is a lot bigger than it looks on the map!

But the beauty of an event like this is that you choose your own route, so you don't have ride any further than you want to. If you do want to go for the big scores, visiting all of the check points is probably beyond even best riders (now there's a challenge!).

However seriously you compete, when the riding is over, Sunday nights prize giving party is the perfect way to round off the event!

Entertainment

To quote Lance Armstrong's first book, "It's not about the bike". At Trail Break, they agree with the great man up to a point; it's not just about the bike, it's about having a good time too!

Big Wight is as much about the festival as it is about the riding. At the end of the long day out on those stunning trails, there's still a whole evening to look forward to.

Top of the bill for each day is live music. For the past several years, we have the excellent Goondocks on Sunday night and a variety of different acts for Saturday.

As well as the live music, they'll have the biggest sound system yet, playing a wide and varied playlist to cater for the chilled out buzz of the afternoons and to keep the place jumping late into the night.

Throw in the all day bar atmosphere and some light-hearted early evening games and 'challenges' and you've got a great weekend. And did we mention there's some cycling to be done too?
