The Captain Stan
Fisherman Mike Curtis bought The Captain Stan, an old US clam dredger and promptly turned it into a fish shop (moored at Fisherman's Wharf, Embankment Rd, Bembridge).
From here, 3 days a week, Mike sells the freshest bream, red mullet, Dover sole, wild bass, brill, turbot, John Dorey, plaice, crab and lobster and in the summer; prawns and mackerel too.
The taste of fresh local fish caught just a few hours before cooking should not be missed and its no wonder the Island's chefs pay regular visits to The Captain Stan! tel. 07966 763828.
Blakes of Ventnor Beach
Crab fisherman Geoff Blake offers a range of fresh fish and quality crabs. Landed daily, they are sold from a traditional family-run shack on Ventnor beach. Crab-meat is available and lobsters in the summer. Take along ice and cool bag if you want to carry it home. tel. 01983 852176
